War on Wolves and the Brewing Culture War

Wisconsin Sign

Today Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker announced at the state National Redneck Rifle Association (NRA) convention in Wausau that he plans to cut the cost of a wolf killing license in half to $50. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following Wisconsin’s war on wolves. The fee cut is exactly what the wolf hating Western states have been doing in their ongoing second eradication of wolves. This is astounding considering how the wolf hating hunting groups, legislators, and their puppets in the DNR claimed that there was “record” depredation funds paid out in 2012. You would think that they would need that extra money to pay for all of those “missing” calves that they fork out hundreds of thousands of dollars for.

But this points to the next step in their wolf eradication plan. By cutting the fees in half do not be surprised to see their “quotas” doubled or tripled next year to make up for the loss of funds. Make no mistake about it. Walker and his goons want as many wolf killers out there as possible and cutting the fees is the first step toward accomplishing that goal. Ever the pessimist, I would also not be surprised to hear the DNR announce that the wolf population magically doubled this year to justify raising their quotas. Montana did this just before escalating their eradication plans. The same thing was done a few years ago for the black bear population where overnight the population doubled. Of course that was with the help of some “science” by a biologist with ties to the deplorable Safari Club International.

We saw firsthand this past fall what the wolf hating sadists in the state of Wisconsin are capable of. Now with likely more licenses being issued and a vastly increased quota the carnage may be such that the wolf population will never recover. Mark my words, Wisconsin will be escalating their war on wolves this fall. Hounders have already made it clear that they are looking into dog breeds specifically bred to fight wolves.

Jane and Mike Belsky, two of the plaintiffs in the recent lawsuit challenging the use of dogs against wolves, wrote a letter to the Jackson County Chronicle clearly laying out the case against the use of dogs against wolves:

As longstanding Wisconsin hunters, we believe in hunting with principles. We do not believe brutality towards wildlife or hunting dogs should be open-ended to the point where nothing is considered too cruel. Not once during the court hearings did — or could — the DNR or hound hunters dispute the fact that hundreds of large hunting hounds have already died.

Most bear and coyote hounds die striped of hide and flesh in a few short minutes while the hunters sit in the truck. The DNR keeps a tally of dead dogs, warns hunters to keep their hounds out of those areas and provides a map. Now they want to sell you a license so you can intentionally “give it a go” and pit your dogs against wolves anywhere in Wisconsin.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks, wolfhounds and Airedales are now being considered for use along with Plott hounds to hunt wolves. These breeds are known for their game fighting ability — what does that tell you? How low will extremists go — and legislators tolerate — in the name of “hunters’ rights”? There has been discussion of the public’s tolerance of wolves. Now discussion needs to turn to the public’s tolerance for how cruel Wisconsin hound hunting has become.

The last two sentences say it all. How much are the public going to tolerate from thrill killing sadists like hounders.

This nationwide war on wolves has gone far beyond “depredation” issues or “management.” Wolves are now being used as a scapegoat for anti-government zealots to take out their hated for “liberals” on. When even the puppet masters of Scott Walker and Rep. Scott Suder (ALEC), the Koch Brothers, put out out an anti-wolf video in California it tells you this is about far more than wildlife. Bob Ferris of Cascadia Wildlands did an outstanding expose on anti-wolf zealots in the west and what their real motivations are:

Identifying and Dealing with the Anti-wolf Forces (PG-13)

We see the very same type of people here in Wisconsin. Just read the vile hate filled garbage being posted on the “Wisconsin Wolf Hunting” Facebook page. If the government wants to ban the mentally ill from owning guns their first step should be to subpoena the records from Facebook to identify the posters to that page. These people get pleasure tormenting anyone that they view as “liberal” or being a “wolf lover.” When you view the “profiles” of these people (except the cowards using aliases) you see a common thread. They all have “likes” for anything rightwing, pro-gun, racist, or anti-government. We spend all of our money and blood fighting terrorists overseas while the seeds of hate are being cultivated right here in our own backyard under the guise of “freedom” and “hunter’s rights.”

The time for passivity has gone and those of us who care for something as simple as human decency need to stand up an call out these sadists for what they really are. When they get their wish and kill off all of the wolves, what will be next? Call me crazy, but I view the war on wolves as just the first shots being fired in a culture war that threatens to drag down our entire country if something is not done to combat the forces we are up against. It is not about “guns.” It is not about “freedom.” For these people it is about forcing their twisted and sadistic way of life onto the rest of us. Before the last presidential election this site had and anti-wolf/anti-liberal troll post on this site that his kind will take control “one way or another.”

No truer words have ever been spoke than this quote attributed to Sinclair Lewis:

“When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and waving a cross”

If he were to say that today it would read:

“When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag, waving a cross, and with an anti-wolf/government Facebook page”

I have no words for the horrors that our Wisconsin government is doing to our wildlife and our state!
    Shame on you Scott Walker!

Do something about it. Gather, protest, write. Do not let them get away with a second season. I suspect, there will be no reason to have a third. Because there are hell bent like Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, to make the wolf an extinct species.

This is crazy. I hope someone in the west will start their own pack on their land because they seem to be hell bent to eradicate all wolves. This way they will still be able to exist.

Scott Walker & his cronies seem to be bent on destroying the wildlife & the nature so many of us have held dear in our state with the blessing of our own legislators.

This may seem a bit melodramatic and I know we all have different tastes, but this song brings me some comfort when I think of the wildlife battles raging out there. I don’t know the politics of the musician/band, but the term “brother” reminds me of how many native people refer to the wolf. The singer is originally from MI, now CA.

We need to start thinning out our OWN species – arrogant, aberrant, chimpanzee vermin that we are – don’t you think ?? And leave the predators to maintain the balance of Nature, as they have done for untold millions of years before psychopathic whiteyman showed up !! A minority of amerikanos seem to be unhappy unless they’re destroying living beings – rather like the attitude in Viktorian england: “What a lovely day – let’s go out and kill something !!”

Killing an animal for sport and plastering your “trophy” picture all over the internet teaches that life has no value unless it’s dead. It teaches that killing is fun. It teaches disrespect for life.
