Blog Followers: Please see the following message from Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
I called Ron Johnson’s and Tammy Baldwin’s offices today. This has not been voted on yet, but is imminent. There is a cadre of other small power grab bills that go with S.1996 “The Sportsmen’s Act” and they gut the Wilderness Act of the 1960’s that has protected our federal lands from the trammeling of man. This will put shooting ranges and roads and airplane fields and ATV’s and snowmobiles and killing into lands set aside for quiet contemplation and keeping our wilderness areas intact. Please act now!
Thanks for protecting our wildlife! As always, contact me if you have any comments or questions.

WILDLIFE AND WILDLANDS IN DANGER
Dear Patricia,
The U.S. Senate is once again considering a radical handout to extreme trophy hunting groups, with the dangerous “Sportsmen’s Act.”
In a single swoop, this legislation would open millions of acres of public lands — including sensitive Wilderness Areas — to hunting and trapping, at the expense of other land users and endangered and threatened species. It would prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from even considering the issue of toxic lead ammunition which poisons wildlife and the environment. And it would permit the latest in a series of import allowances for sport-hunted polar bear trophies from Canada, encouraging trophy hunters to escalate the killing of threatened species around the globe.
Please make a brief, polite phone call today to Sen. Tammy Baldwin (202) 224-5653 and Sen. Ron Johnson (202) 224-5323 urging them to oppose S. 1996, the “Sportsmen’s Act”. And don’t forget to send a follow-up message»
