Patricia Randolph’s Madravenspeak: We have a common destiny with Brother Wolf

NPS photo / Steve Arthur

“The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer. It has never yet melted.” ~ D.H. Lawrence

I caught the last half of “Ma’iingan, Brother Wolf” on Wisconsin Public Television Monday night. The Ojibwe Indians who spoke reminded me of the Indians I met at a wolf hearing years ago in northern Wisconsin. They spoke calmly and lovingly of their Brother Wolf and their common destiny. I thought of the genocide of American Indians that the Europeans inflicted in clearing North America under “Manifest Destiny.” I thought of the last third of wildlife left on the planet, which is under continuing assault.

The film focuses on the many ways that wolves are so much like the Indian tribes — their love and care of each other and the care of the entire pack for their pups. Their lack of aggression to humans. Their retreat to the little remaining wilderness to take care of their own. The lack of understanding by humans of their integrity, right to exist, and important role in balancing man’s imbalance.

“Some scientists consider wolves’ complex social structures and family bonds closer to humans’ than those of primates.” (“Return of the Wolf: Conflict and Coexistence,” by Paula Wild)

According to Anishinaabe indigenous people, who include the Ojibwe tribes, they walked with wolves until the Great Creator decided they would part paths. They were told they would always be brothers and that what happens to the wolf will happen to the Anishinaabe. If they are persecuted, so are the Indians. If they are thriving, so are the tribes. They are family, tied to each other in mutual responsibility and destiny.

The seven fires are the seven Anishinaabe prophecies. The Anishinaabe believe we are in the seventh fire, a time of great peril.

“The seventh prophet … said that there would come a time when the waters had been so poisoned that the animals and plants that lived there would fall sick and begin to die. Much of the forests and prairies would be gone so the air would begin to lose the power of life.”

“The way of the mind brought to the red, black, and yellow nation by the white nation would bring danger to the whole earth.”

“It is at this time that the light skinned race will be given a choice between two roads. If they choose the right road, then the seventh fire will light the eighth and final fire, an eternal fire of peace, love, brotherhood and sisterhood. If the light skinned race make the wrong choice of roads, then the destruction they brought with them in coming to this country will come back to them and cause much suffering and death to all the Earth’s people.

We know what path has been chosen by the prevailing light-skinned political structure — the hard path of devastation of living systems in pursuit of money and power.

Luckily, unlike humans, wolves live in harmony with the natural world and have no vested ego in hoarding other beings for profit or killing for a false sense of power.

Wolves and other natural predators are on the front lines of disease control both for wildlife and humans.

“During the past 16 years, the trend in prevalence (of chronic wasting disease) in adult males has risen from 8-10 percent close to 35 percent and in adult females from about 3-4 percent to over 15 percent.” (CWD prevalence in Wisconsin, DNR).

“While I don’t think any of us large carnivore proponents are saying that wolf predation will prevent CWD, or totally eliminate it from infected herds, it is ecologically irresponsible to not consider the very real possibility that wolves can slow the spread of CWD and reduce its prevalence in infected herds.” — biologist Gary Wolfe, wildlife commissioner and former CEO/president of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Seeking a picture of Brother Wolf, I found a recent Anchorage Daily News story written by Ned Rozell and titled “The Riley Creek Pack’s Sole Survivor.” Riley, (#1202) born in Denali in 2009, started her own pack by breeding with a male named Midnight (#1406), and by 2017 had grown the Riley Creek Pack to 17 wolves. In January 2018, Midnight was killed on a trap line outside of the park. By the end of February the pack had been killed down to seven or fewer wolves. In the summer of 2018 Riley was caught on trail camera with four pups playing. By August she was sighted without pups. There were four wolves left, and then there was just Riley, limping along in the snow alone. Riley nurtured her pack for nine years and they were all dead, save her, in just a year.

Going into the Wisconsin state Capitol to see a dead taxidermied bear in the office of Sen. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst, who heads the “sporting heritage” committee, I realize that dead bear epitomizes what this state has become in wildlife destruction. It is a state of death and organized lovelessness.

“What is a man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. All things are connected. This we know. Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of the Earth. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.” ~ Chief Seattle

ACTION ALERT

The Trump administration has renewed efforts to undo Endangered Species protection of all wolves in the United States. The Center for Biological Diversity called the proposal “a death sentence for gray wolves across the country,” because it would open the animals to public hunting. Please contact your federal legislators.

Sign the petition to Sen. Tammy Baldwin: No more anti-wolf riders or legislation weakening the Endangered Species Act.

Wisconsin and Minnesota residents are invited to submit images celebrating the beauty and promoting coexistence with wild carnivores: coyote, gray wolf, bobcat, red fox, gray fox. Replace killing contests with photography contests.

Support the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act. NREPA would protect all the all remaining road-less lands and 1800 miles of wild rivers in the Northern Rockies by designation under the 1964 Wilderness Act.

Horrific Wolf Kill Video From Idaho Surfaces

Screen shot from Idaho wolf kill video.

Screen shot from Idaho wolf kill video.

I have seen plenty of horrific and sadistic videos from wolf killers but this one may be the most disturbing. This comes from Idaho, AKA Wisconsin West. The video shows this punk mugging for the camera after shooting a wolf, then he goes to videotape the wounded wolf thrashing around while he twirls his revolver.

I warn you that this video is very graphic but it needs to be seen. This is a perfect example of the mindset and antics of wolf haters both in the West and Midwest. For now I am only attaching the link because of how horrific the video is. Again this is highly disturbing. DO NOT comment on this cretin’s page. Please just observe. Nothing we say has any impact on these thugs. But make sure this is shown far and wide. I am sure our friends over at the wolf hate pages will be getting off on this real soon.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=336141726531347

These are the comments that follow the video. This illustrated the mind of wolf haters and those that cheer them on. The comments are almost as disturbing as the video. This is the future of Red State America at it clearest. While the Teahadists are going nuts over the black guy in the White House this is what the children of this country are becoming. And we wonder why there are school shootings each week in America. Look at the dead eyes in this video and you will have your answer.

Easily the most awesome hunting experience for me!! So freakin sweet

Why are Bear Hounders and SCI Supporting Destructive Wisconsin Mining Plan?

WI Barcode

If anyone still thinks that fascism has not reared it’s ugly head in Wisconsin the news this week about camo-clad, masked, and heavily armed mercenaries hired by a mining company should change their minds.

‘Bulletproof’ Arizona security team raises hackles at Gogebic mine site

The land that this mining company is using is private land that is open to the public under the state’s “Managed Forest Program” that gives a massive tax break for lands that are opened up for animal killing and other activities. In other words the owners of this land have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes for allowing public access to this land. Now public access is at risk because of the heavily armed goons that the company hired to “protect” the land from the so-called “Eco-terrorists” that supposedly vandalized mining company property and “destroyed” a worker’s cellphone.

So what does this have to do with wildlife other than the massive destruction of wildlife habitat? It turns out that many of the state killing cartels, represented by lobbyist Bob Welch, supported this mining bill. These groups include the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association and Safari Club International that Welch lobbies for and the “United Sportsmen of Wisconsin” another kill everything group with a different lobbyist. So why would these self-professed “conservationists” support a bill that would essentially destroy a significant chunk of pristine wildlife habitat? Even George Meyer’s kill everything group, the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, lobbied against this nefarious bill. That should tell you how bad this thing really is. So why are the bear hounders and other killing cartels in favor of this? I think I got my answer when I looked at the first person that introduced the legislation. As suspected it was none other than Rep. Scott Suder (R-ALEC), also the “author” of the wolf kill bill.

These people are so anti-environment and anti-wildlife that they will cut off their nose to spite their faces just to piss of us “liberals.” Just like the wolf kill bill, this anti-environment mining bill has all of the same elements that right wingers champion. Environmentalists are against it, the tribes are against it, and it will directly impact the health and well being of the tribes and the well being of their people. Any way that Suder, Welch, and Walker can spit in the faces of progressives and Native Americans they will take it. Remember this the next time the bear hounders or SCI claim that they are “conservationists” and “care” about wildlife and wild lands. Once the Penokee Range is destroyed and the tribes and citizens of this area are under the thumb of a mining company that hires heavily armed mercenaries will this state finally wake up to the reality that fascists have take over our state? What more will it take?

Why do you think these kill everything groups are supporting the raping and pillaging of the Penokee Range? Is it racism against the tribes or something even more nefarious? Here are the lobbying groups that lobbied for and against this mining bill:

This Is Not What I Voted For…….

Three wolf haters in one picture! President Obama, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, and "Cowboy" Ken Salazar.

Three wolf haters in one picture! President Obama, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, and “Cowboy” Ken Salazar.

**Disclaimer** What follows is not representative of Patricia or even the WE VOW group. It is my opinion and mine alone.

Each day I am coming more and more to the conclusion that the man occupying the White House is not the same man that I thought I voted for.

Am I talking about drone strikes? No, I really don’t care if our CIA or Air Force takes out the jihadists hell bent on killing us because we don’t buy into their “party like it’s 699” philosophy. I also do not have any sympathy for people that call for the death of a young girl that was gang raped by thugs because she is “impure.” I also am not too keen on being sympathetic to those that ram airplanes into buildings or blow up schools because girls are being educated which apparently is a big taboo in that “culture.” Do I like civilians being killed? Of course not, but our enemies sure don’t have a problem with it.

Am I talking about the IRS “scandal?” Hell no! I still cannot see what is wrong with giving extra scrutiny to groups that whine and complain about taxes and are essentially anti-government. I would think the IRS would be derelict in their duties if they didn’t give them extra scrutiny left or right.

Am I angry about the NSA “spying” program where they have access to phone and internet records? Again no. I really don’t care if the NSA sees that I texted my wife a couple of times to bitch about my job or to ask what we are having for supper. I also don’t care if the NSA sees that I spend too much time on Facebook bitching about things when I should be working. Ok, I am guilty of occasionally taking a gander at a naked woman or two on the internet in my time, but I don’t think the NSA cares unless Pat Robertson is now running that agency . As far as I am concerned snoop away as long as it doesn’t get too cozy.

Am I angry about “Obamacare?” Hell no. I think that it is a great first step toward joining the rest of the civilized world. Hopefully universal healthcare is next.

Am I angry about the “gun control” that Obama is pushing for. Again, hell no! Gun nuts make me sick. I don’t have a problem with people reasonably owning guns, I just have a problem with guns owning people as is the case on our culture. And there is that “well regulated militia” thing that the gun nuts seem to always omit when they preach their worship for the Second Amendment.

So what am I angry about regarding the Obama Administration? Well, this is a wildlife site so I think you can guess where I am going with this. When Barack Obama was elected President in 2008, I was skeptical about some things in his platform, but I was also ecstatic that after the eight long nightmare years of the Bush Administration we finally had a true “Progressive” in the White House once again. I had high hopes for the future of our wildlife and wild lands and completely expected Obama to nominate an Interior Secretary in the mold of Bruce Babbitt from the Clinton Administration. My hopes got even higher when rumors started circulating that he was seriously considering Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona for the post. Grijalva is a longtime champion for wildlife and wild lands so things were looking up indeed. Imagine my shock when Obama chose a freaking RANCHER, Ken Salazar, as Interior Secretary. You know the guy that showed up at the press conference where his nomination was announced in a freaking cowboy hat! This was my first inkling that something was not right with this administration when it came to the environment and wildlife. Salazar proceeded to adopt the vast majority of Bush Administration Interior policies and promptly delisted the gray wolf from the Endangered Species list in the Northern Rocky Mountain states. This led to the wolf hating states of Idaho and Montana immediately initiating wolf killing seasons in 2009. The killing was stopped when a federal judge put the wolf back on the ESA list.

Not to be deterred, scheming Republicans and “Democrats” like Jon Tester of Montana (also a rancher) decided to try to find a way around the court ruling by slipping a “rider” into a must pass budget bill in 2011 that would remove wolves in Montana and Idaho from the ESA list and authorize all but a token population of 150 to be killed. Our president signed this bill including the “rider” thus spiting right in the face of one of the groups that supported him the most vigorously. This was supposedly done to save the seat of the fake “Democrat” Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, because the only way to get elected in these states is to show how much more you hate wolves than your opponent. Idaho and Montana soon picked up right where they left off and implemented even more extreme killing seasons. Salazar and Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe then made a secret deal with another wolf hating state, Wyoming, that allows for wolves to be killed by any method, at anytime, in 80 percent of that state. The rest of the state, near Yellowstone National Park, would have a “quota.” The killing in these states have led to the death of well over a thousand wolves including numerous radio collared wolves from Yellowstone.

Then to add insult to injury in late 2011, Salazar announced that gray wolves in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan were to be removed from the ESA list at the beginning of 2012. And to the shock of no one Wisconsin and Minnesota initiated plans for killing seasons immediately. In the case of Wisconsin legislation was introduced the same day that wolves were officially delisted. This led to over a 500 Great Lakes wolves being killed in Wisconsin and Minnesota at the end of 2012. This does not include the hundreds killed by the Wildlife Services assassins. Michigan jumped on the wolf killing bandwagon in 2013 and want to start their slaughter in the fall.

The above is bad enough right? But it is not the end. Even after all of the disappointments the Obama Administration delivered in terms of wolves and other environmental issues, he again garnered the support of environmentalists and wildlife advocates, such as myself, because the alternative was unfathomable. I also held out hope that with reelection and the rumored resignation of “Cowboy” Ken Salazar, Obama would have learned his lesson and nominated a much more reasonable Interior Secretary that would put a stop to the insanity that Salazar caused and Obama allowed to happen. Even though Rep. Grijalva again had massive support from environmentalists and wildlife advocates, Obama again ignored us and nominated former banking executive and CEO of outdoor retailer REI, Sally Jewell. I figured that at least she wasn’t a rancher and seemed to be a reasonable choice for the position. Apparently I was wrong.

Not content spitting in the faces of environmental advocates for the past four years, the Obama Administration announced yesterday that all remaining protections for the gray wolf are to be removed in the United States with the exception of the severely endangered Mexican Gray Wolves in Arizona and New Mexico. How generous.

Thank you President Obama for spitting in the face of those that supported you once again. I ask, what did we do to make you hate us so much? Better yet, why do you hate wolves so much? Are you trying to pander to the yokels in the West and places like Northern Wisconsin that would never support you anyway? I didn’t vote for this, and I doubt the millions of others that voted for you did either. You won’t stand up to the Teahadist bullies that attack you each and every day, but you have no problem offending those that worked hard to get you elected? Why is that? The gray wolf is not “recovered.” Not even close. So why is the federal government washing their hands and turning over their “management” to the states knowing full well that the states are already waging and all out war against this species.

If you are like me and outraged at this administration please let them know.

Graphic Video Shows True Nature of Hounders

**UPDATE** May 31. 2013. The video is back up thanks to some wildlife advocates in other states. Please share this far and wide.

**UPDATE** May 28, 2013. The video has been pulled from YouTube. Apparently once these cowards take some heat over their sadism they remove their videos. I was able to obtain screenshots from the video, and have them on file. I also posted two more videos showing again what kind of monsters these hounder scum really are.

**WARNING** The following video is EXTREMELY graphic and depraved.

This video was forwarded to me today and I am sickened beyond belief. If you have the stomach for it this video illustrates what hounders are all about and what occurs throughout the year in Wisconsin and across the country. The disgusting cretins in this video not only allow their dogs to rip this coyote to shreds, but one of the sadists stabs the coyote with a knife while urging the dogs on. If this is what passes as “recreation” and “heritage” in our state and country then we need a serious reevaluation about what this nation really stands for. I warn you now that this video is horrific and if you care anything for wildlife you will find it hard to believe that we share the same planet with such disgusting “humans.”

This was apparently done in Idaho but it is no different than what Wisconsin promotes and expands each and every year. This is what already is happening to coyotes, bears, raccoons, and soon to be wolves in Wisconsin. I want anyone to claim that this is “ethical” and “moral” in any way. Remember this is what the Wisconsin DNR calls “heritage,” “tradition,” and “recreation.” All I see from this human garbage is sadism. There is no way that I share the same DNA with these cretins and I am even more ashamed that I share a country with them. Even more disturbing is the fact that these wildlife snuff films are all over YouTube and the internet. Have we really sunk this low as a species and nation? If this video is any indication we already know the answer.

Please share this so everyone knows what these hounders and their ilk are really all about.

Update May 28, 2013: The original video was removed by the coward that posted it but just a quick view to the “recommended videos” on the page point to many, many other depraved act or dog being used to kill wild animals. Here are videos of a sadist cheering on his dog to kill a coyote in water and then another video of the monster taping his dog killing a young raccoon.

Apparently these wildlife snuff films are perfectly legal and are all over YouTube. Can our species be any more depraved? Here is a comment left by the cretin that filmed the above videos on another sadistic video:

“Hell ya man I trap them and let them loose and let my dog fuck them up some people are fucking stupid and wouldn’t survive a week in the wild they would be on there knees begging us to get them some food!! Get-r-done!!!”

Real classy. How can we as a country allow sadistic human garbage like this to walk free?

Why are Wildlife “Snuff Films” Considered Entertainment in America?

Photo via Wikimedia Commons

Photo via Wikimedia Commons

Today, I had intended to write a post about the exploitative “reality” television shows that are all over television, but someone beat me to it. Yesterday, while at my health club, one of the channels showed the former “History” channel broadcasting a show called “Swamp People.” I couldn’t hear the dialog of the program but for a solid hour the show showed a collection of cretins impaling alligators with massive hooks and executing them with rifle shots. The killings were followed by showing camo hat types with dubious forms of dental hygiene acting like they were badasses for shooting these hooked animals execution style. This occurred over and over throughout the hour and I was astounded that people would consider these wildlife snuff films to be “entertainment.” Somehow television programs showing cretins executing alligators and other wildlife life have become popular entertainment in the United States. What does this say about our culture? I have a suggestion. How about having a “reality” TV show that shows what happens in a slaughterhouse? Would that be as popular? I doubt it because people do not want to see how that steak or hamburger ended up on their plate. So then why are these wildlife snuff/redneck shows so popular?

Here is an outstanding article about this topic from The Guardian in the UK:

Bloodthirsty ‘factual’ TV shows demonise wildlife

Funny how after centuries of war and massive bloodshed, Europe gets it while we wallow in cowboy fantasies and barbaric “traditions” that the majority of the civilized world has moved on from. Please let me know what you think.

Killing as “Conservation” and Other Obscene Hypocrisies

Wolf Tracks

Definition of HYPOCRISY (from Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

1: a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not; especially : the false assumption of an appearance of virtue or religion
Gee, of whom does the above definition describe?
While again reading the story about the wealthy Wisconsin trophy killer that paid hundreds to thousands of dollars to fly to Africa and kill a HIGHLY ENDANGERED black rhino, I came across a quote that made my blood boil:
But an organization named Conservation Force, which has spent about four years helping Reinke get his permit so he could bring home the trophy, argues the decision will be a precedent-setting boost for efforts to protect endangered species.

“Mostly it’s significant for rhino conservation,” said John Jackson of Conservation Force. “It will help support anti-poaching efforts.”

Jackson said Conservation Force is a nonprofit, charitable organization that is “using hunting as a tool to conserve species.” And the group’s website describes itself as “a force for wildlife conservation, wild places and our way of life.”

Really? Protect endangered species by killing them. Sure. Just like NAMBLA (Google it) is all about “mentoring” and providing “guidance” to the little boys that they molest. Give me a freaking break.

But sadly this isn’t the only form of hypocrisy from wildlife exploiters and killers. In Michigan the voices of 250,000 plus signers of a petition to stop their upcoming wolf killing season are about to have their voices silenced by the anti-wolf legislature in their state. From this article:

Supporters of Casperson’s bills, however, say the move protects Michigan citizens’ hunting rights by not allowing outside groups from coming into the state and pushing their own agenda through referendums. They point out that the Keep Michigan Wolves Protected petition drive was backed by a national animal rights group, the Humane Society of the United States.

So the killers and exploiters of wildlife in Michigan and other states don’t have “outside groups” pushing their own agendas? Really? I guess they missed the recent story about the rabidly anti-wolf ROCKY MOUNTAIN Elk Foundation and how they want to interject themselves into the pending federal lawsuit about relisting wolves in the GREAT LAKES. I am smart enough to know geography, and the ROCKY MOUNTAINS are not in the GREAT LAKES. I assume that because they are rabidly anti-wolf the wolf haters don’t view them as an “outside” group. And we are hypocrites?

If successful as an intervener, RMEF will join the Hunter Conservation Coalition group comprised of Safari Club International, National Rifle Association, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation, Wisconsin Bowhunters Association, Upper Peninsula Bear Houndsmen Association, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, and the Michigan Hunting Dog Federation.

Gee, how many of these groups are “outside groups” pushing their agendas? The NRA, SCI, RMEF, etc. No those aren’t big money “outside groups,” are they? Apparently in the eyes of anti-wolf/anti-wildlife groups you are only an “outside” group if you don’t follow their kill everything agenda. And they call us “hypocrites?” Give me a break.

And let us not forget the ultimate hypocritical statement about how having a killing season for wolves will make the wold haters more tolerant of the species. Sure. Just take a look at the revolting Wisconsin Wolf Hunting Facebook page to see how “tolerant” these cretins have become. How about this sadistic fantasy quote from the page

“The only regret I have is that I used a recording device without sound! Just think how cool a video with sound would have been. To hear him trying to gasp for air would have been amazing! I should have taken an “after” pic, because it looked like it tried to claw it’s own face off with it’s front paws.”

Sure sounds “tolerant” to me.

When are people going to wake up and realize that these kill everything groups care NOTHING about LIVING wildlife and wild lands. They always brag about how they “fund” the various fish and wildlife agencies across the country and act like the rest of us don’t contribute anything. This is another hypocritical fallacy because we haven’t been given the option to fund these agencies because that would end the hunter/trapper monopoly that they have on power. I and many other LIVING wildlife advocates would gladly pay to fund the Wisconsin DNR and other similar agencies. But guess what happens then? We would actually get a say in how the DNR operates and we might exposed their corrupt agenda and pandering to the killing cartels. We all know that will not happen anytime soon, so the killing cartels need to get off of their tired and stale argument about how only they fund “conservation.” They only pretend to want our money. Money equals control and they sure don’t want to give that up.  If they didn’t get to kill and torture our wildlife with traps and dogs, they wouldn’t give one dime for “conservation.” It is time that someone calls these hypocrites out for their ridiculous arguments.

It is also sickening about how the term “conservation” has been corrupted just as the word “harvest” has been. With groups like Conservation Force, SCI, the NRA, and RMEF it is all about KILLING, not “conservation.” Who really believes the garbage propaganda that they spew? It is like those that said during the Vietnam War that “sometimes you have to destroy a village to save it.” We all saw how that turned out and we are seeing now how “conservation” in Africa and for wolves in the United States is turning out. Please call these groups out for their hypocrisy every time that you can, and spread the word about their true agendas. We need to create a REAL “conservation force” and not pander to big money trophy killers feigning “conservation” for their own sick blood lust.

Wisconsin DNR Again Extends Middle Finger to Nature Lovers

Badger Army Ammunition Plant near Baraboo, WI.

Badger Army Ammunition Plant near Baraboo, WI.

It wasn’t enough that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wanted to turn the Mackenzie Environmental Center near Poynette into a “training center” for wildlife killers, now they want to do the same to the now defunct Badger Army Ammunition Plant. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

Conservationists who want land near Baraboo to be used for quiet activities are angry that the state might use it for motorcycle trails or shooting ranges.

The state Department of Natural Resources is in the process of deciding what to do with the 7,300 acres on the site of the now-defunct Badger Army Ammunition Plant. A plan approved in 2001 called for the property to be used for activities such as agriculture, hiking and bird-watching, but the agency said it has to consider whether conditions have changed in the past 12 years.

The plan in question was approved by the Sauk County Board in May 2001. It called for the land to be used for conservation, education and agriculture, as well as low-impact recreation, such as hiking and bird-watching.

Of course the “conditions” have changed. Now Bob Welch, the bear hounders, and other killing cartels have complete and total control of the WDNR. Screw nature lovers, the DNR just wants this land to be used for any and all destructive means possible. Apparently the backlash they have received about their plans for the Mackenzie Center mean absolutely nothing to them. It also seems that the DNR has no interest in seriously providing opportunities for wildlife watchers and nature lovers unless that wildlife is being watched via a rifle scope.

I have been to this area many times and not long ago there was talk about reintroducing free roaming bison, and providing for all kinds of opportunities for nature lovers. So much for that. Now they want to replace what could be a pristine natural prairie (give or take a few toxins) with gunfire and motorcycles. Then we have a DNR representative telling us that majority public opinion has no bearing on how they make their decisions:

But DNR regional director Mark Aquino said the reuse plan was just a “guidance document.”

“Their task was to develop a common vision,” Aquino said of the committee that developed the plan. “Since it is 12 years old and because our planning process requires us to have other involvement, we have to see whether conditions and desires now are sufficiently different.”

The DNR will issue three alternatives this summer and hold open houses and public hearings to gather comment on the plans, he said. The three scenarios range from a plan focused on conservation and quiet activity to one that emphasizes more high-intensity recreation.

Aquino said the agency already received 388 comments during a public comment period that ended last winter. Although a list of those comments on the DNR website shows that many favored conservation and low-impact recreation, Aquino said the final decision on which plan to recommend doesn’t necessarily rest on how many people favor a particular use.

“This isn’t a vote process,” Aquino said. “The public input is only one part of what we consider.”

So in other words here is a big middle finger to nature lovers. So much for our state being any semblance of a democracy anymore. Majority rules has no place in Wisconsin, we only care about what special interests want, in this instance the DNR is pandering not only to shooters and motorcycle riders, but to ATV people as well.

Another point to consider is which recreational opportunities are underrepresented, he said. He noted, for example, that the Wisconsin ATV Association has been telling the Natural Resources Board for years that ATV users have too few recreational options in southern parts of the state.

So make sure to add earplugs to go along with your orange jacket while dodging the landmines called traps when trying to enjoy nature in our state. Just make sure that while dodging the traps you don’t get ran over by a motorcycle, ATV, or get mauled by a pack of vicious dogs participating in some of that good old Wisconsin “tradition.” Should we expect anything different from an agency headed by a real estate developer? read more here:

Of Rhinos and Wolves: More Outrage from a Clueless Administration

A HIGHLY ENDANGERED black rhino and her calf

A HIGHLY ENDANGERED black rhino and her calf

When I first read the headline a week ago about an American trophy “hunter” that received approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to import the dead body of a HIGHLY ENDANGERED black rhino that he slaughtered in Africa any aith that I had left in our president concerning wildlife disappeared. Even less surprising is that the wealthy trophy killer hails from the kill everything state of Wisconsin. Not content being able to kill just about every living creature in Wisconsin, David Reinke, traveled to Namibia in 2009 to kill a HIGHLY ENDANGERED black rhino all under the guise of “conservation.” Not content just using the ridiculous “conservation” argument this guy even had the nerve to claim that he was “saving” other rhinos from being injured by killing the 34 year old male rhino. I didn’t know whether to laugh or vomit when I read Reinke trying to justify killing this highly endangered animal. From the article:

David K. Reinke says he’s committed to saving the endangered black rhinoceros.

So the Madison businessman traveled to Namibia where he contributed about $200,000 to a trust fund there — and shot and killed a black rhino.

Reinke said killing the rhino, a 34-year-old sterile male that he shot with a .375 H&H Magnum rifle, actually helped the species, of which only about 4,000 are left in the wild, by reducing fighting injuries and deaths among male rhinos and encouraging rhino reproduction.

“This is a scientific issue,” Reinke said in an interview. “Don’t forget, the important thing here is to save the rhino.”

Reinke, the president and CEO of Liberty Parts Team, a Madison printer parts wholesale company, is the first American in more than 30 years allowed to import a black rhino trophy. That’s put him at the center of an international controversy over trophy hunting and endangered species, and what role — if any — rhino and other big-game hunting can play in conservation efforts.

The old “we kill them so they don’t die” argument. Give me a freaking break! If this guy is so “concerned” about “saving” the species why not just donate to a real conservation effort and not traveling across the world to blow away an endangered species? And just like our inept DNR and the killing cartels in Wisconsin, Reinke has to throw around the word “science” to justify his trophy killing of this ENDANGERED SPECIES.

How much lower can the Obama Administration fo when it comes to wildlife? On top of this outrage, they want to strip all of the remaining protections for the gray wolf in the United States, except for the struggling Mexican gray wolves in Arizona and New Mexico. This is a fast track to a second eradication that the wolf hating states in this country are all to will in fulfill. Does Obama even care in the slightest? From his actions and inactions I would say that he has ZERO empathy for wildlife. What a way to payback all of the environmental voters that back him. I voted for President Obama because the alternative was too terrifying to contemplate. I even agree with Obama on probably 99 percent of his positions, but when it comes to the environment and wildlife he has been an absolute disaster. I had a feeling what was to come when he nominated “Cowboy” Ken Salazar to head the Department of Interior during his first term. Why on earth would a supposedly “progressive” president nominate a rancher to be in charge of our wildlife and wild lands? Now when it comes to a wealthy trophy killer wanting to bring in his slaughtered animal, the USFWS just spits right in the face of the Endangered Species Act so this guy and have his HIGHLY ENDANGERED rhino trophy to show what a real man he is. Shame on you USFWS and shame on you President Obama.
